Description & details Funding by television means that the project must be carried out in a difficult to access spot in very bad weather so that the deep mud and job stresses make for good TV! And so it was. Sadly also, the resulting programme imposed a fake Brit vs French narrative missing the much more fun real story of everyone getting the job done.rnrn In reality the Timber Framers Guild (40 or so) and others (15 or so) did an excellent job hewing and framing, and melting/pouring lead, weaving rope slings. Historic Scotland masons built a target wall and cut 150 to 200 kg stone balls. rnrn In the moments before the first throw we sang "Give peace a chance" on the hill. Once the machines were adjusted for range they both proved highly accurate landing stone after stone on target.rnrnFixed machine - 27ft Doug Fir arm, 7 ton fixed lead weight, wheeled.rnrnBasket machine - 47 ft Oak throwing arm, up to 15 tons wet sand in hinged basket.
